Committees

At Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas, it is our members who sustain and care for our Synagogue family. Please consider joining one of the many committees we offer and become a part of the legacy of members who have kept our congregation strong for so long.

Personnel Committee

This committee is in charge of employee issues, reviews and policies, and personnel changes with board approval.

House Committee

This committee is in charge of the maintenance and operation of the real estate and property of the congregation. 

Caring Committee

This group offers support services to our temple community during periods of illness, isolation, and/or bereavement. Services include assistance with transportation (to temple, doctor’s appointments, etc.); grocery shopping; friendly phone calls; visits to homes, hospitals, rehab centers, or nursing homes; emergency meals; sending caring notes and cards; and other assistance as needed.

Social Action Committee

This committee organizes a variety of projects and activities throughout the year that focus on Tikkun Olam—repairing the world. We strive to build relationships with people both inside and outside our synagogue walls as we work together to make the world a better placeAll ages are welcome to join us for one project or many.

Ritual Committee

This committee provides guidance and assistance to the temple’s clergy with respect to the services and other religious practices of the congregation.

Programming Committee

This committee leads the planning and executing of synagogue programming throughout the year.

Young Families Committee

This committee helps plan and execute programming specifically for young families (whom we call Yeladim al Galgalim) at Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas. Our facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/yeladimalgalgalim.

Transition Committee

This committee helps newcomers to the island (including clergy and staff) get acclimated to the new and exciting challenges of living on the island.
